The Nissan Frontier is Redesigned and Topping the Competition in Several Key Areas

At the launch of its third incredible generation, the longtime favorite Nissan Frontier pickup truck continues to show the world what it means to be an eye-catching, versatile model that's also easy to drive. It's the perfect fit for Powdersville and Anderson, SC drivers who love pickup truck utility but who prefer a smaller vehicle that's easy to park, and the team at Benson Nissan of Easley wants to help you get to know it better.

A light-duty pickup that's no lightweight, the Frontier has been serving Simpsonville and Greenville, SC drivers since 1997. Available as either a double cab with smaller backseat, which Nissan calls the King Cab, or as a four-door crew cab with a full-sized backseat, it's a highly customizable model that lets you decide how you want it to look and come equipped.

Despite its longstanding reputation as a go-to option from truck fans in Piedmont, SC, we know there are other pickup trucks in this size that may be competing for your attention. Take the Toyota Tacoma, for example. Another well-known model that competes against the Frontier, we've taken a closer look at this truck next to our available option. Read on to discover some of the ways we found where the Frontier comes out ahead.

Nissan Frontier vs. Toyota Tacoma

Both of these popular pickup trucks take the slot as the smallest truck in their respective lineups, coming in smaller and more compact than their brands' full-sized, heavy-duty options. This makes both models easy to park and a piece of cake to maneuver in traffic, compared to larger vehicles. But while they have plenty in common, they also vary in other areas. We've got the inside scoop to help you make the right choice.

Asking price.

Nissan wants to help drivers get behind the wheel of the vehicle they really want. As such, they start the Frontier with an asking price that's more accessible to a wider variety of budgets than the Toyota Tacoma. So, while the Toyota starts at around $28,600, you can easily get in a new Nissan Frontier for around $27,000.

Power and performance.

Every new Nissan Frontier gets its power from an impressive, 3.6-liter V6 engine. It delivers a standard 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque and comes paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. But the Toyota Tacoma doesn't offer the same level of standard power, coming with a base four-cylinder engine that offers a lackluster 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. There is an optional V6 upgrade for the Toyota, but even that pales in comparison to the Nissan, with 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the Toyota automatic transmission is a six-speed, compared to nine with the Nissan.

Standard features.

The Nissan Frontier wants to make sure you are comfortable, safe, and connected while you're on the road. As such, every model comes with high-end amenities that include standard zero gravity front seats and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system. But the same level of features isn't standard with the Tacoma. If they're available at all, it's strictly on the upper trims.

Hauling and utility.

Whether you have a lot of heavy tools to haul in the bed or a small camper to tow, both of these small trucks offer nice towing and hauling ratings, with the Nissan Frontier offering a robust 1,460-pound payload capacity and a 6,570-pound towing capacity.
